With our last big update—some three weeks ago now—we started running Populi on some upgraded, better-performing servers. With three weeks of usage behind us, we finally have enough data to show you how the new hardware is performing. We’re rather pleased.
As the graph shows, Populi’s average server response time dropped about 60%. The drop occurred overnight when we cut in the new equipment, and has stayed more-or-less constant over the past three weeks—despite adding five colleges to our servers’ workload in that time.
But that’s not the real point of this statistic. Populi’s new servers make the system a lot snappier and more responsive, which in turn improves overall user experience. And, of course, the performance improvement came at no cost to our customers. We sprung for the hardware and kept all the testing, upgrades, and other headaches off our customers’ to-do lists. That’s the beauty of web-based software.
